Polysomnography (PSG) also known as sleep study, is a test used to diagnose sleep disorders. A PSG records brain waves, the oxygen level in blood, heart rate and the breathing, as well as eye and leg movements during the study. All of these variables are correlated together to assess the overall quality of sleep. Sleep studies are authorised by most medical aids. This overnight test can be done at home or in hospital. Sometimes, medical aid asks for clinical information from the doctor as letter of motivation for the sleep study.
